Arts & Culture

The historic Art Deco architecture has been a source of artistic inspiration as far back as the 1920s. Today, Miami Beach attracts art enthusiasts with its internationally renowned institutions like The Bass Museum of Art, The Wolfsonian-FIU Museum, known for its fascinating collection of objects from the modern era, the Jewish Museum of Florida, and exhibits like Art Basel Miami Beach. Art Basel cements its place as a trend-setting cultural destination. Each December, leading international galleries exhibit more than 1,500 artists, attracting art collectors, artists, dealers, curators and art enthusiasts from around the world.

The performing arts are displayed throughout the city. The Art Deco Colony Theater on Lincoln Road hosts live productions, world class film festivals and first rate comedy shows, while the Byron Carlyle is home to one-of-a-kind local theater and dance programs. The New World Symphony, the prestigious classical music academy, presents a full season of concerts from October to May at the Lincoln Theatre on Lincoln Road, and will soon move into an adjacent Frank Gehry-designed performance space. For live entertainment, the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater hosts performances from contemporary to rock, Latin and country music, comedy and awards shows.
